COLOR RUN 5K & Fun Run

Hey there!

Freedom Life is having our first ever COLOR RUN!    What is a color run?

This race has two components.  1. Smaller kids can opt to run in the Color Fun Run at 8:30 am.   At certain points they will be doused with our non toxic color cornstarch.  We encourage goggles and face masks for these little ones.   For the older guys and gals & adults – we will have a 5k (around the greenway 2 times) at 9 am.  Along the route there will be water stations, color stations, and maybe a surprise visit for one of Marion’s local mascots!

You might have already noticed . . . The Color Run isn’t like other 5k runs. Getting ready for a race with colored powder throws a takes a little bit of extra prep. Whether you’re running with us for the first time or you just need a refresher, here are our favorite Color Run tips we’ve collected over the past ten years from other color runs. Follow these, and we promise you’ll have a blast at our event!

WHERE AND WHEN CAN I REGISTER?    RIGHT NOW!  CLICK HERE

BRING A SMALL SANDWICH BAG FOR YOUR CELL PHONE.

You’re gonna want to capture the color throws in all their glory. We get it. But since you can’t throw your phone in the wash after the race, keep it in a baggie to protect it from the powder. We promise–you’ll still be able to capture some killer photos.

WEAR A BANDANA AND SUNGLASSES.

At each checkpoint along the course, volunteers will be standing by to douse you in a different colored powder. If you plan on getting messy, a bandana and sunglasses will help you keep the powder out of your nose, mouth, and eyes.

BRING A TOWEL AND BABY WIPES.

The Freedom Life staff will be at the Finish Festival to help you clean up, but getting into your car after a Color Run can still be a little messy. We like to clean up with baby wipes before leaving the race and bring old towels or beach towels to throw down on the seats of the car before heading out for the day. We will also have a LARGE blower to get some of the color off!

GET THERE EARLY.

With many of the Freedom Color Runners getting ready to run, you’ll want to get there a bit early. We also recommend that you pick up your packet the day or so before the event, which will give you more time to participate.  You can pick up your runner bib and t-shirt at the Freedom Life Office on Thursday October 20th or Friday October 21st between 9 am and 5 pm.  (130 N Logan street)

TAKE “BEFORE AND AFTER” PHOTOS.

Start your morning by snapping a pre-race pic in your clean clothes, and get another photo after the race, once you’re covered in color. The before-and-after comparison is one of our favorite things we get to see on our Instagram feed!

RUN WITH YOUR FRIENDS, YOUR FAMILY, AND/OR YOUR KIDS.

The Color Run is an environment where everyone feels comfortable getting active, no matter their age or ability level. Whether you’re young or old, you’ll feel at home!

HAVE FUN.

The Color Run is more about making memories and having fun than worrying about your mile time!  We love our runners and walkers! Whenever you cross the finish line, there’s a party waiting at the Finish Festival. There you can celebrate completing the 5k with a little dance party!

The most important thing to remember is that it’s not all that complicated. We just want you to come ready to have a good time!

Freedom Life’s inaugural Fall Color Run is happening this October 22, 2022 at the YMCA in Marion, NC.   There will be a kids fun run at 8:30 am.  The Main Event color run will begin 9 am.  T-shirts and Medals will be given to each person that registers by Sept 30. If we have shirts after this time we will give you one as well!

WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE COLOR RUN?

The Color Run was inspired by several awesome events, including Disney’s World of Color, Paint Parties, Mud Runs, and festivals throughout the world. We wanted to create a less stressful, untimed running environment that was more about health and happiness than competition. We hope that The Color Run can act as a catalyst to inspire continual healthy living.

IS THE COLOR RUN SAFE?

We conduct thorough research to ensure the safety of the materials and their application. The health of our participants are always a top priority. This is a colored cornstarch material.

WILL RUNNING THROUGH THE COLOR ZONES AFFECT MY VISION OR BREATHING?

Our color powder is all certified non-toxic and free of any heavy metals. Our bright colors are a combination of cornstarch, baking soda, and FD&C (food-safe) dyes. Some Color Runners opt to wear glasses or goggles for their eyes and use a bandana or dust mask for their mouths. Our Color Throwers make sure to aim low as you pass by.

WILL THE COLOR RUIN MY CLOTHES OR RUNNING SHOES?

The color mostly washes out after the event. As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better. It’s best to wear items that you wouldn’t mind getting colorful. For FULL color cleaning ideas and tips, check out this link out!

DO YOU HAVE A CLEANING STATION AFTER THE RACE?

We have air-blown color cleaning at the finish line. With a good dusting off, you won’t be 100% clean, but you’ll be good for the drive home. It’s always fun to see people still colorful around town after The Color Run. It’s like a badge of honor!

Thanks in advance!

Sincerely,

JIM SMITH
