COMMUNITY LIFE

it takes a community

“It takes community working together to make a difference.”  At Freedom Life we do not just say this, we believe it.  We do not just believe it, we live it. From the very first day of our existence, we have been committed to community connection and collaboration.

The current or formerly incarcerated clients we serve at Freedom Life come to us with very complex needs.  These needs range from practical needs such as an ID, a Social Security Card, food, clothing, housing, jobs, and transportation, to deeper needs such as mental health, emotional health, substance misuse/addiction help, and spiritual help.  We have clients whose children may be in DSS Child Services, or who have deep financial needs and pressures.  All of our clients tend to struggle with ties to old relationships that could be, and in many cases prove to be harmful to their reentry, recovery journey.

JOINING TOGETHER TO HELP

At Freedom Life, we know that it takes a community, working together, to help justice involved individuals and their families with life changing support. That's why we partner with a number of individuals, churches, civic organizations and companies to further our mission. These community partnerships in time, volunteer hours, resources and donations enable us to reach men, women and families with a message of hope and change.

working together

Not only are we working with people and organizations within our community, be are also seeking to work with the community as a whole through collaborative partnership with organizations such as McDowell Unity Inc. and The McDowell Health Coalition.  We have also helped to build a new community organization specifically formulated to address the needs, barriers, and concerns faced by men and women reintegrating from incarceration on a broad county wide level.  This organization is called the McDowell Reentry Council.  Many community leaders from organizations across our community are part of this council.  Freedom Life serves as a state partnered Intermediary Agency to help our new Reentry Council achieve its full potential which in turn will help our reentry clients achieve their full potential within our community.

growing together

When we work together as a community we grow together as a community.  Working in community to help our clients will insure that our clients have the best chance to become positive contributors to the life of our community instead of being a negative drain on our community. There is an old saying that says, “When the tide comes in, all the boats rise.”  When we work together as a community to help those in greatest need within our community it will create a tide of new life and growth within our community.

No single organization can address all the significant issues and necessities faced by our clients. This is especially true when multiple levels and layers of need are having to be addressed all simultaneously in order to help the men and women we serve have the best chance for transitional and transformative success. We know that in order to effectively address the needs of our clients, we have to work very closely in networking partnership with individuals, churches, agencies, and other organizations within our community.  Freedom Life is currently partnered with over 80 different local, regional, and state agencies, churches, and organizations.
